Hi! Welcome to my little happy place on the internet. My name is Kate and I am a fourth grade teacher in Marlborough, Massachusetts! If you told me in college that I would be running a website and an Instagram page while teaching, I would have laughed in your face…but here we are!
A little over two years ago I decided to create an Instagram page to share my morning journals with the families of my students and very quickly I found that there was a whole teaching community, and unlimited professional development at my fingertips! I wanted a place where I could elaborate and share more of what I do in the classroom, beyond the caption under my Instagram. I wanted a place where I could be real, highlight the resources I use (yes I still am a huge TPT fan) and create a home for my favorite lessons. So with a little (correction: a LOT) of help from some great friends, I ended up with my own website!
So, I guess the next step is to tell you a little bit more about myself. Professionally speaking, I am a classroom teacher. I have been working full time in schools for a little over five years, but I started substituting after I graduated in 2009.
I hold undergraduate degrees in Sociology, Elementary Education, and Human Services. I also minored in Psychology and had a heavy focus in behavior throughout all my course work. It definitely has shaped how I teach today. I also received my masters degree in Special Education. Which may explain why I am a huge pusher of differentiation. I definitely am not done learning, but I am taking a break from college courses as I narrow down my next degree. (So bring on ALL the PD!) #NeverNotLearning
So that’s my professional side, but what about who I really am? That’s the me I want to share with you. The real human being person, not a highlight reel.
If you have met me in real life you probably know I am running around with my head cut off. I tend to say yes to too many things, I want to please everyone, and I can overwhelm myself at times. But hey, I’m working on it.
I am a lover of all things related to the beach or ocean (hence the name). I love anything crafty. Think wrapping gifts is fun. Oh yeah, and despite being painfully awkward sometimes I tend to make friends with everyone I meet.
So, if you want to spread some happy, laugh with (but hopefully not at?) me, and maybe get an idea or two come explore. If you want to know about the time my pants split mid teaching (yup, I’m an embarrassing human) or get to know me, stay tuned or send me a message! I’m here for you!
