Post number two…you’re back! Or you are here for the first time and skipping post one, which hey that’s cool, that’s how blogs work. Today (well tonight) I wanted to talk about the app Class Tag. I should mention that I am part of their leader program, but the following opinions are solely my own.
I have tried other parent communication apps before, and quite honestly I love the idea of texting parents because that’s just how communication works these days. I also like the idea that when I leave my classroom, I don’t have to wait to communicate with my families or help my students with something at home. However, giving out your personal information these days can be risky which is why these apps come in hand.
There are a few things I love about this app. First, it translates to over fifty different languages. You guys, as someone who has taught students with five different home languages, this is a GAME CHANGER. The app automatically translates to families preferred language, saving me the time and miscommunication through using translations I find on the web. It also works a lot faster than having to wait to translate through school resources! I love the idea that I can write in English, and my families can read it in Portuguese.
Second, parents can choose how you communicate with them. Personally, I get hundreds of emails a day. I’d rather you text me than email any day because I will see it faster. However, if this was my Mom writing this, she’d tell you to send her an email so that she knows exactly where to find it. I know the parents in my class are probably just like my Mom and I, everyone has their own preference. You don’t have to do anything for this, parents set up how they want to receive information and the app will automatically do that for them!
Finally, teachers spend enough on their classroom. Using the app creates opportunities for teachers to earn rewards including gift cards to things like TPT and Amazon. The one thing I never have enough of teaching is colored printer paper (I will go on and on about those benefits at some point) but if you give me a chance to earn the paper for free…I’m all about that.
If you aren’t using Class Tag, I seriously suggest that you start using them ASAP. If you are using another app, I would encourage you to download and compare between now and the summer. If you are like me, you will notice there are SO many benefits to switching (I have only named a few). Or maybe you are a super human who can manage just phone calls and emails on your own…go you, I am REALLY not that good. If you have questions for me drop them below, it will make my day more than a kid catching the ice cream truck on the Fourth of July.
